Peach Krakens!

Wow..... whataday! Starting out this morning getting up at 6am and heading out to see about this ballooning thing. It was a tough go to get moving. Getting to the meeting area and it being so close to Ihop... tough. Since the winds were very nice right there we all decided to fly from there. There were new people out to fly too. So we got up and loaded and launched quickly. Winds above the rooftops was pretty brisk but heading out westerly. Did the spin then down and into an arroyo... just before I faked hitting the side of the edge I checked the skies above then rocketed up and into it as only a racer can do with ease. We even visited a ground breaking just before they got started... did a little touch and go then landed and switched out passengers. Up and out again and down and tracking in on another nice landing. After all that packing up and then back with the crews and all chatting and laughing and munching some good food... Ahhh yes... you would never know I was a closet shut in.

I had two cameras on. One with me and one with "The Bob". I wished I had had one more to mount in the Cat but no joy there. Both videos came out great. It will take some time to get them processed but I did clip out some pictures.

A nice day other than the loonies on the road. I lay it on distraction. Black Friday and all.. I would not have left the house but good friends were having an open house and we wanted to go.... so we braved it. It was fun... though after a while my skull started throbbing. So short but fun. Looked to be very yummy snacks but I just could'nt. Sucks to be me.

Came back to the house and plugged the tanks in... checked the sensors... all good there. Even got some batteries for the radios... I wonder if they will work. Gotta go look at the weather.... brb. Lookin good! 1mph gusting to a whole 2mph... Now lets see if that holds till tomorrow. So far... its questionable.. nothing stays like it should be.

Now I am continuing the path of file copying. Up to 2009. I will have lots to delete but I will not be missing any files. Hopefully it will take less time to delete the copies... and yes.. each copy is in a separate file so I cant just mass delete.. but there also is a good chance I wont remove something by accident. Yes I looked into file duplicate finders but all of them have provisos to them.. its not easier but darn safer. It may take forever.

A trip to Grandma's Music on Coor's. Full of cool instruments and equipment. Just a few select items. The trouble in shooting in the store is there is so much piled on so much that you cant get a good shot unless its crowded or you zoom in like a crazy person. Doing the colorization allows me to get it focused on what is what I wanted to show. Much more to tweak... twist... adjusted... Ya man!

Thanksgiving Eve

The food scents running around the house are heavy with the anticipation of good foods. Since anything I touch cooking wise over the level of eggs and soup from a can is very very dangerous.. on the level of "can be used as a concentrated deadly substance"... yeah.. well.. I cleaned up around a bit. Clean clean clean.

While this was going on I was copying over more files. Its into the hop scotch part. That and going from 2.0 to 3.0 USB makes it longer. Much longer. Once this is done I will bounce this file segment to another drive so I can hop over to another drive. You might wonder why... Mainly it rains on the plain... but sometimes its directly on my head.. so I am not erasing a backup until the new backup is created and verified. Not having hard drive flowing out of my pockets means having to Hop Scotch. Sigh. I did do a few color focus edits while I was waiting and watching.. I also found a picture I edited for a friend. I had a heck of a time finding it and that was because the original was totally dark. Only after processing it did the colors jump out. Went past it three times. I will be getting some shots together for printing.. I insist!

Good article. Always knew it was .. though I would equate it with a machine... but a living thing... a big living thing. Abuse it is bad.. I'm all for moderation in all things. I am not for drastic changes in our use of oils or blah blah blah... I am for reduction in plastics that do not break down. Recycling any and everything. If we think we can change things the earth will wipe us off it. Note that most extreme environmentalists was to kill you. What they really are after is power or money. A real environmentalist wants to live in harmony with nature. Using and renewing. As everything.. in moderation.

Not the song.. the paperwork. Entered 60 plus docs today just to have them swept away on the wings of a farcical internets mood. Blast it to random particles.. Oh.. its there already. Now I will have to start again. Or.. perhaps I will try a different tack on Monday as its way past the time I can do anything about it today.

The other things done today were.. shift, transfer, restart all processes and units on AWIPS. Done. I need a list for all the parts. I keep getting mixed up with only our stalwart ITO to deal with it. Har! We were musing that one or two ( mirrored ) servers running VMS could do everything the separate segments are doing… And mirroring it means hot spare on the fly. Even to the point of segment switching on failure. I think it would be great. I'd go as far as to have a backup running too of the main system. If a side goes down..wipe and install the whole thing… start recovery from the operational side and then switch. Its much easier to rewrite the whole than to cut and paste a segment. One slight error and very interesting things might happen.. nothing you would want happening though. Its a thought. Along with that thought it… could I or should I create a system that is just a raid system. Up and running and all the drives connected to it then use a mirroring setting. It wouldn't change anything but that I do not have to verify all the files are the same. Problem is the portability. Some of the files I want to work with are big. Moving them across the nets would suck. I guess I could have a drive to tote with me and connect it back up to the main system and dump whatever I did and have the system do the moving and mirroring… Hmmm… thoughts…… very dangerous. I would need a UPS and a good rugged PC. Hate to have it crash. Hmmm… Its all in that minimizing I have been on.

I stood in the doorway of the computer room again last night and stared at it. Trying to figure out what I could remove and not bother with. Clutter. Its as bad as knowing there's a corner in a round room.. you just can't see it….. quite.

8 by 8 by 8

Nothing like labels to get back on track. I had a good headache going last night by the time I decided to pack it all in and give up for the day. I had so many drives connected and I couldn't differentiate between what was going where.. where it should be and why and how and what of which. It was confusing. Today I decided to label everything a couple of ways.. 1. With a number 2. With the name of the type of drive and 3. With the name of the contents.

See, I have to mirror everything. Just in case. If you don't do this or you have no secure backup your asking to have all your pictures and videos and music and important files removed forever… whenever.

Since I am running out of space and want to get more transportable I am reshuffling as well as splitting drives and files.

I have to process all my files at work too and have a drive just for that.. so I am doing my stuff when I get home and doing the work files at work while I am doing other things. Its all the same and not that confusing. Big diff between many pictures and many documents though.

I can, as I said, at home move files while editing. I did some more and I even tried a full “ remove an irritating thing as well as add something” edit. The first turned out great..the second not so great. Some of the problems were the shadows and the others were all the things that had to be worked in that existed… Its like shaving a bunny to get the gum out of its fur. The bunny knows it needs the work.. The shaver can't care less.. and the poor guy holding each would rather just chat with the bunny not shave it. Too bad the bunny thought it smart to go stand in a corner and chew gum.

I listened to some Zero 7 songs as well. I wanted to watch a few on you tube as they are fun.. esp with Sia and Tina. Both great singers and the Zero 7 songs they sing are great.. without them they would be okay. Unfortunately both don't get that quality of songs or sing much. I bought an album by each and they are…. Meh. Collaborations are good. You tube sucks now. When I want to pull all of one song out it gives me one or two and a ton of other crap. What's up with that?

I was a surfing and the water was choppy and what little there was to see was as choppy too… Like sushi but…..... I don't like sushi.

London in 1 hour… not bad. But like the concord it was too expensive for the masses of which I am one. If I could get to England and it took 12 hours but only cost 400 round trip Id be going a lot. If it was 200 and 24 hours I could do that too. I don't mind losing the day nor the productivity ( not that I would be unproductive if…). Well as long as there was net link, bathroom and snacks I could do 24 to 36 hours easy. Just keep the price down. I want to go over a lot. I have things to do! Plus for 200 dollars I could easily go on two day trips… one day travel two days there one day back every month. I would surely get an economy apartment or room here and there. Leave Friday. Come back Monday… The more I think about it the less I care about most material things… Right now I am centered around my tablet, cameras, storage, I could store the balloon with someone. I think I could live in an 8 by 8 by 8 square not including or heck including bathroom. Hmm….

A nice quiet weekend. Snowing just makes it more important to keep the doors closed and become that hermit.

Okay.. did leave yesterday morning but lets just ignore that. I dont want to talk about it. Again. Oh.. what did I do today.... Ran around in circles in my head. Round and round and around. I may be confusing myself with all this file moving. To be sure I do not erase anything by accident I have been recopying whatever I think might be missing from a mirror drive. I think I am at the point of moving the Raw files over. What would you do.. Raw or processed. I think processed would be more fun so that I am not lugging stuff all over. Squirrel... I noticed that this Logitech keyboard lags or its my laggy finger.. probably finger.. I capitalize and the next letter usually an "H" gets capitalized too. I have to keep going back and correcting it. Recycle.

Ouch! Christmas specials hurt.

OKay so I took a break while I edited a few shots from Las Vegas while I was waiting for the files to move over. Not bad for the Surface. Moving 50 gig and also editing heavily aint bad. No Lag.

You never know what will be "that" shot. Keep em.. keep em all. Storage is cheap. Recreating a picture is next to impossible.

Reading. I wished every book publisher would put their books online as well as in print. I know some books I really like to read as books and then there are books I want to read in electronic forms... sometimes both. If you want a first edition and signed then you can get the paper version.. There are always ways to make money on books electronic and hard. I have many copies of the same book in both version.Plus if all the books were on the internets then everyone everywhere could have access to anything. Even encyclopedias would be good to have on the nets just to see what has changed.. and unlike wiki.. they are fixed. I could go on.. but its a good idea.

Solid Saturday Sitback.

I fell asleep in my chair. Crazy. Ive never been able to sleep in this chair. Looks like I am very exausted. We got out of the house early and to the store before the crowds. We only had one irritation....a group of 50+ aged people who thought the end of an isle was the best place to visit for a solid 15 minutes. Didnt your parents teach you better? FInd a Starbucks to be so ignorant in. Oh and buy a coffee.

Spent the time after getting to the house moving more files. So much to do.. so many files to verify. I am going to take a break from it soon to do some editing.....Its a bunch of fun and all but I HAVE to finish this move up to make it "easier" on myself. Is there a service for this.

Brrr.. cocoa day....

The beginning of the weekend and the start of “my darn nose is always cold” season.

Healthy or not Its still strange to be warn everywhere but one place. Nose mitten? Untapped idea? Glasses with a heater built into the bridge? A scarf that has upward blowing heaters?

All last night except a break to quickly edit some photos and tonight I have been moving files around. It took me four tries to get a flow chart and list down that would work. What I thought was a workable plan didn't go quite like I thought it would. Due to the need to verify all the mirrors and make sure nothing is lost before moving to the other drives its a lengthy and boring process. This is where a nice 10 Tb raid would be good. Over all 5 Tb but with 5 Tb I could stuff all my files and not have to worry about their mirror. Too bad the box with the raid programming is still at a ridiculous price. Not gonna happen. I just have to make sure I update and verify on a better schedule.

2010 was a year for videos .. there are bunches of them. Once I have them in place I can go through and clear out the bad ones. Its a long row to hoe.

I am going to take a break and edit a bit .. then come back to it.
