We launched off a tarmac parking lot at the Star center in Rio Rancho... The envelope was so staticy that I was being shocked while burning the hot inflation.. there were points that my hand would spasm and let go involuntarily... little arcs were going from the handle to my hand through the glove I was wearing.. we came up soft until I could hold the handle ... after that it went very well...
Went upwards at over 1000 fpm to get high enought to catch the East wind.. walked/tacked the balloon east enought so that whenI came down I would be East of the first target as it looked like everyone was being pushed West.. It worked too .. but I had to expend fuel positioning .... Still good.. dropped over Keith at around that 1000 fpm.. not bad..
As it was not one direction South West or South and farther on I could see Mike G.. heading directly West... we went up and down a lot to get the right run on the target...
Heading into the target .. had to pop up at the last moment to get on line.. then vent to bring us to the target... still higher than I wanted to be... I would rather cross the target at a foot off the ground..... but had to dive into it..
Target is that yellow X. We came over it but too high... well. no.. It was very good... threw from higher than i like.. threw short even though Alan said hold onto it... I was excited... Had to burn to stop our dropping... lots of slop on my control... Still came in second!
Here I rotated the balloon to get the camera on Mike as he came over the second target.. he threw for I think 7 feet.. I threw for 11 feet.... Now I have to do weather next month...
Sigh!
