Modifications.

Today I am going to tone map some overly dark photographs. Since I just opened my facebook editing service I thought I would touch on what can be done with bad shots. Granted its more than just point and click. You also need some data to work with. Sometimes is just not possible to do anything with a photograph. Most times its quite possible.

Check em out.  And.... Check out Highperactive Videography at

Nice huh!  So much informations sitting there to find!

 Super cool.

Even if its just a slightly dark shot Its possible to draw out details.

Lots of fun seeing what's really there..

Even with blow out highlights its possible to bring some of the color back in.

Lots of things you can do with a little time and patience.

And the fun...

Blasting out the color.

Have fun everyday.

Post Flights..

I'm posting my flight.. hahahahahaha....

No really.... Woke up around 0530.... everything packed in the trailer and ready to go by 0600....

Stopped by Starbucks for a decaf grande latte with 7 splendas..

Decaf cause I have learned that jittery hands are not fun when you're trying to get precise control.
Or.. i know that when I do drink caf coffee I can't stop my hands from shaking. Interesting.

Add a little 2% milk to cool it off a bit and back in the truck and out to the Rainbow Field. Thinking that a lot of people said they were coming out to fly I expected to get there around 0640 and be the first one there... wrong!

Beat me... there were about 8 vehicles there and three balloons... dang!!

Still took the middle of the field...

Rory and Bob hold the throat open so we can cold pack it. The right side is much warmer than the left side..

As fast as we got the balloon inflating there was still a couple that beat us into the air. Not bad having Pibals before launch.

Thats my Flytec instrument sensor. It tells me the temperature inside the top of the balloon. It has a little probe that feeds through a tiny hole and sits against the inside fabric. RF send to the instrument package in the basket. Strapping this correctly helps it not melt. The black load tape strap feeds over and down under then back up and over to keep it in place.

From top down. Checking that the baffle is still attached.. hahahahaa

THERES A HOLE IN MY BALLOON!!!
just kidding.. my turning vents.. Verifying that the lines are not tangled or hooked up. Lookin good! ( Green Line is the clockwise turning line )

Crown check. Positioning lines lookin good. Tops velcroed in place.

Baffle... remember I said that Lindstrand always goes beyond the expected.. My baffle is color coded to my balloon... normal baffles in Lindstrand racers is white... I asked if Yellow was an option.. guess what... I got a yellow baffle. Now you're asking me .. what's a baffle... Not telling!  No really, it is to help help the hot air up in the top of the balloon..

One last check down to the throat. Look at the shadows on the right.. nice.

One side of my burner set.. nice big on/off pilot switches.. Instruments are out of their pouch so I can set them and turn on the receive section to get the envelope temperature  I had Aerco build my pouch with a solid plastic face. Harder to flip switches but it keeps the instruments looking like new. The thick rope off to the right is my tie down. Its very thick.. Its very strong. Oh and the blue is a packers padded blanket to protect the leather bolster and my knees from the dirt and rocks.

Launched.. did three launches and landings.. then Bob jumped in. We took off and did some controlled maneuvers to make sure I could still do them. Up high... then drop down to a spot over a road I had picked to set on... Ground tracking.... Other balloon avoidance  Chase the balloon.. keeping at the same level and position from the other balloon.. Power line avoidance  Landed on the road I chose between two other balloons. Swapped out passengers and launched again. Landed on another road. Launched once more. I had two video cameras on but one decided to not recode a darn thing... Yay Go Pro!  I think it was the battery. I will be testing

Landed... walked back to the road... laid it down smoothly.
Then directed the retrieval vehicle next to the balloon to prepare to pack up.

Small crew member or "Ballast" lol.

Just slowly venting all the hot air out the top. Laying right down the road. Boy was it dusty again today.

Parked and ready to put away.

There are no pictures in flight as I was paying attention to how the system felt after such a long time not flying. she flew beautifully. Flying solo to get current was tough. She didnt want to come down and the temp was only 130 degrees. Sitting on the ground waiting for Bob I was at 120 degrees and it was wanting to walk away.

Rory did get some shots of me in the air.. Just a few as he was chasing.

Super excellent day!

Preparations...

Its Friday and tomorrow is Saturday..... Sounds rather mundane right.... NOT!  Tomorrow is the first day in months that I will be flying. Too much going on.. too sick.. too beat down... but I am over the months long sick feelings and I think its time to step out there.... granted I have to get current... which means... if you havent flown in over 90 days you have to launch and land safely three times to get "current". So tomorrow I have to fly solo... wow .. been ages... solo and launch and land three times... then I can take passengers up.

Preparations...
Flight bag and documents ready and waiting.

Flytec instruments, GTA Radio, Radios, GPS and video cameras packed away.
Extension cord is plugged into a functional socket.

Plug is plugged into the exterior plug to the interior power strip.
Cooler is filled with things to drink..
 primarily water.
Tank for the fan full of fuel... stinky! About an inch of space from the level to the cap.
Helmets, tie down ropes and in the back a cameron envelope squeezer I have never used.. Oh and pad for the fan so the dust isnt blown into the envelope.

Heaters are set to 79 degrees. Both are on and at temp. so I should ahve close to 150 psi tomorrow.. probably more around 140 since I will disconnect and travel to the launch site before we test and launch.No.. I dont think they really need to be plugged in but hay... better to do so and not nee it then need it and not do it. Okay... okay

Envelope is packed away and strapped to the wall of the trailer. Cinched up tight.

Burners are strapped upright inside the basket with the uprights and covers also strapped. The two arms for the cameras are tied up too so I dont forget them.

I still have my packing slip taped to the wall.

Facing the fron tof the trailer. Have you been wondering why my tanks are sitting there?

Facing the back of the trailer. Basket on Right, strapped in. Mylar runners on the floor to help the basket slip in and out of the back. Pouches on the wall for gloves and equipment. Bags with refueling hose and other things that might be needed too.

Right.. not the same balloons. Patturns In The Sky is resting now. Patturns Highperactive is the flying balloon. No time nor moola to change the graphics yet. Still looks great after all these years. FAST SIGNS on the east side did a very good job.

Bumper stickers on the back of the trailer... Not that I have added to them as I should but some are still fun to read... Grey Meat?

Ready to pull out in the morning. raring to go... Hope I get some sleep tonight... that probably would be a good thing. Cant wait to see my friends. Got a bunch of  "You bet, we will be there" replys. Also there are going to be a bunch of other balloons out with those friends. Gonna be a mini rally in the desert. YAY!

National Weather Service Weather chart for tomorrow.. well from when I clipped it to Sunday. Always check the weather even though those winds your seeing may .. hah.. probably wont be the same in the morning. Best to keep checking until you commit to launch or not launch.

Weather underground site. Never rely on one weather site. never believe what your reading. Always ckeck and check again.. then talk to other Pilots while your in the field. never fly past your abilitys. Very smart.

Past ready to go... just for fun... here is what is sitting on my back covered patio. Stacks upon stacks of old envelopes in old bags... there are about 50 skunks hiding in those bags.. or at least it smells like it. Ugh!

Skies look real nice.. some clouds out there but nothing ominous.

One of the walls in our balloon corner. A colored picture of Patturns In The Sky by "T" on the left and on the right a watercolor of Kiss A Hoy. The cneter poster is a cool repro of a painting by mark Pacan. Love it.

Now my blog is written.. tomorrow.. Hopefully pictures and video of the flight in Patturns Highperactive... I will have some cool stuff to report tomorrow evening.
