On the cusp of a new 365 days

I have almost written a blog a day for the last year. This being the eve of 2013 ( glad to see it behind me ) and the divisions our country has seen in money, jobs, lives lost and lies propagated to the sheeps.

I know a lot of non sheep. I also see a lot of fat sheep. Bloated on other peoples money and dreams. It would make a normal person want to leave. If you get beat down enough its almost your only avenue. Hopefully the masses will come to their senses and we can get people to work and happiness of constructive living that that creates right behind it. I would love everyone to succeed at what they do and what they want to do. I would love to see people happy and productive. When there are many happy productive people, they lift up those that can't seem to rise and help raise them up. 

I am looking forward to 2014 of less propaganda, less divisions, more hugs, happier faces, more work and money for all.  

Onward and upward for those that do not stick their hands in other people's pockets for moola.

I was going to chat about the Go Pro and what you need to know to capture good video. it would mean going through the cam and taking many pics and such. Its much easier to say...go get the little book and play with it. Set it for pictures 1080 wide and chase the dog around. Set it for video wide and chase the wife around..nicely. Once you have fooled around... with the camera.. go put it on your computer. Now go get you some video editing software. The GoPro stuff is only gonna get you so far. I use POWER DIRECTOR. Its great. Its easy and its not too expensive. I drag a vid clip in and stretch it out then snip the segments I want a picture of . It sends them off to a file and I can pop them out and post them. They are pretty darn good for video. The program seems to do very well at it. You can even edit some for effects if you like and it will normally do fine. 

Ya gotta play with it and spend some time looking at what you get for the settings you're using. You can even hook it up to your computer and adjust the internal settings of the camera for what light you expect and whatnot. Loads of things. I think the hardest thing to do is get it set up when I am also getting the balloon ready. If you hit one of the two buttons incorrectly you will be taking pictures instead of video or just shutting it off. Super careful, you need to be.

Other than impending Doom 4 ( ref. Invader Zim .. Foodcortia Debacle ) that is Property  2014 process coming in in dribs and drabs. Oh.. and training too! Woo hoo.

I expect NEXT Monday to be insane. This Monday went quietly. Over saw some docs and getting a maintenance time ready. Nothing heavy to lift today. Tomorrow should be the same. 

I got some questions on file storage and Gopro settings over the past few days and I may have been a bit jumbled with my responses. Since that is probable I will go over it here.

On storage for Pictures, Videos, Music or what not personal files.... Go get you two same sized external hard drives. They are cheap coming in for 2 terabytes at from 100 to 130 dollars.

Okay... I said 2 tb because you normally wont have that much data. Also make sure you get USB 3.0 drives and you have 3.0 USB ports on your computer or it will take a while to transfer.  I have way over 2tb but thats my fault for my itchy finger on the camera shutter. If you have more files buy more dries. I have separated my files into RAW or NEF files, JPG files, RAW video files, Completed video files, and Music files. if you have less than 1 tb of all files then the 2tb drives will be good enough. 

Lets stick to two drives of 2tb size only. So connect up both new drives to your computer. make sure they show up in your system. Create a file system that you like. I have my files all set to DATE , TYPE or DEVICE, TITLE of main subject. Like this...

2013 12 30 d300 18 200 Picture of asphalt. So DATE/camera used/lens used/title   Videos I use 2013 12 30 GoPro 1 chip 1 dancing around in circles. Music is always labeled by Album / group year bit rate... as in... Swing Out Sister - kaleidoscope world (2001) 320. I am always keeping watch out to purchase higher bit rate music if I can.... because I can tell the difference.

So you should have both drives something like this..

Music

Videos

          Complete

                    date

          Raw

                date

Pictures

          JPG

                date

          RAW ( if you have raw )

                date

Its the easiest way I know. 

Once you have the two drives set up. Open the category you want to move your files to and copy them over 

Repeat for the second drive.

After you get both copies over verify them. Check files in folder, check the byte count, check the bit count if it shows. Any discrepancies between the original and the copied files means you missed something or something didn't get copied correctly. Go back and fix if necessary. Do this for all your files. 

After that is complete and you have verified both the copies correspond with the original files then you should delete the ones on your main drive. couple of reasons about this. 1. You free up space on your computers hard drive. 2. You will not lose these files if your computer gets hit by a virus. 3. you can cart one of the copies off to your office for safe keeping inn case of a fire or break in. 

You can encrypt your drives using TrueCrypt. its fast and very secure. Free also.. did I say that? Its on the fly encryption. if you want to be extra careful you can verify files in the copied drives to make super sure they are there correctly. I usually take  a sampling of everything to check. 

I have moved to different sized drives for the primary and backup units. For the one that stays at the house I use WD 3.5 externals and for the primary I use toshiba or WD or samsung 2.5 externals. Smaller means I can carry all my files in less space than a good novel. A primary and backup copy of everything is the only way to not lose anything. 

I mean you can go buy a raid system for upteen buncches of money and still lose something ...and you can't store safely ff site that system... If Raids were real cheap Id still have a primary at the house and a backup at work or visa versa.

I will usually go through monthly and move any changed or created files to the backups. Then re-verify.

Hope that helps you sort your files out somewhat. 

Oh.. dont forget to label the outside of your drives.

This is happening everywhere. I like the idea of giving houses ( ones that are built to code ) to artists and well just as in the land rush in the US... Give a person a house. He has to do some sort of upgrade to the exterior ( grass, trees, rocks, cacti whatever ) and keep it up. After three years it becomes his/her house. Homeless also can be set up this way. No mortgage!!!! Woah! Nice! But responsible. Three months or active destruction gets you pitched out.  I would commute an extra half hour for a free house! Heck Yeah! Maybe even an hour.

I have already done up a design for a single container house. It rocks! I would leave the doors on the ends and just internally glass in those ends. lots of light and at night.. close it up tight. 

I have enough space next to my house to put one but then what do I do with the house? hahahhahahahaa... 

Monday... What are those?

Wow... did time fly. Wow...did I waste some of it. Wow.... three days to the new year.

No, I didn't waste all of it. The computer room is pretty tight. All I have is two cables left to run that I cant do until Monday night and then wrap the cables and done. It looks great and there is so much more space to move around. Not cluttered. Now the room closet is a mess. I have to get in there and sort out all the junk that has stacked up. I have to move all the books out ( paperback ) to the garage and file DVDs but nothing I can't do on New Years day after the Rose Bowl parade.

Since the body did not want to feel better after crawling out of bed today again I did some net surfing. First the news. Sad to see so much bad and so little good. So many out of jobs and no place to live. It really sucks. I cannot fathom how the govt thinks that restricting businesses with new taxes, new rules, new invasions will create more jobs. Its like we are becoming France... that is not a good thing. Blah.

On other fun things and not so depressing to think about stuff... Waffles!

This is an amazing artist. She is creating this huge painting of an iceberg. Why... who the heck knows. No really why. But its better than the art that is displayed in some galleries... as I have said before.

I applaud her for ability. Yes I can be an art critic. A very hard art critic. I just think on what people pay for some of the garbage out there and I just sigh. LOL. So deep here. Look. She is wearing something that is not black! Thats no artist... hahhahahahahaa....

How about shopping? I like shopping. I do not like standing there for four hours staring at one pair of pants.

I did have a plan to go antique hunting today. I dont know if its going to happen because I feel so wretched. I like taking pictures when out "tiquing". I love lamps and clocks and old phones. Oh and mirrors. You never know what you're going to run into when out. Also, if you only go once in a year you are going to miss a lot of stuff.  There are quite a few places on 4th street here and also along Central. You will pay a higher mark up on Central than 4th. You do have to watch out for crap being sold as gold in some places. Makes you scratch your head.

I found some nice things on Central but the prices were almost double what they should have been. We looked at a wash stand and it was broken and missing tiles and they wanted as much as a fully functional and complete wash stand. Yeah... I didn't buy anything in that store. Use your phones net link to check prices so you do not get ripped off.

We have been here before. Oh.. and after looking at the new Mac.. I have come to the conclusion that its a trash can. An overpriced trash can. I can show you the trash cans in the Airport here... Other than the big Q on the side they look just like the new Mac. I am all for following innovation and usefulness and such but at what cost. Its been a quiet day. Everyone out of the house but me and the dog. I ran the speaker lines for the computer rooms surround system. I had to remove some cable from one place and add to two others. Splice and wrap, all while the dog tried to sit in my lap on the floor and right on top of all the cables.

Got it right the first time. Good sound. There are some limitations to the setup but its working. Still do not have a splitter for the television. Not that thats is a big deal. Oh, and I am missing my FM line. I wonder where that went. Regardless, everything electronic is in its place and functional. Xbox included. Just have to get the HDMI cable in and run. Not a big deal either.

Last night my brain was in some sort of weird place. Another odd dream of an alien invasion but not directly to us. They were out of sync with our time by a slight amount and were able to tap off of our timespace. Some people could cross over and did. Most were hunted down by the military for the ability because then they could cross too. There were also some sort of creatures, tall and gray in some sort of ship suit that would slowly come toward you and attach some sort of thing to your head and draw off energy. It was very messed up.

Amazing how much I have used my camera and its still going strong. I think the only thing I have to replace right now is the neutral density filter. The glass has come loose from the frame. Not a biggie either.

Nothing is a big deal right now. I didn't go out shopping today because I do not need to spend anything on anything. Nor do I feel up to visiting anyone. I am pretty un chatty at the moment. Not that I don't want to chat but my nerves are not up to it.

I went over and found a few interesting things on the web. It was a slow day.

The Day After.

On my first day of use or lose leave... so very weird. One that Christmas was in the middle of the week and the other that I have use or lose to use. Kinda crazy.

Sitting here in the morning. Second day of non medication sleep ( kinda sleep ). I am not sure if I am groggy from lack of sleep or what. I keep preparing to do "something" but have no clue where to start with "it". Perhaps I will get an idea in a few moments while I am writing this. One is, finish the computer room arrangement. Sadly one of the things I have to do in that is go into the cold garage and locate a splitter. Hmmm.... Maybe later.

I need to clear my cameras memory chip. I can stay warm and do that. I could download the videos.. Yeah.. I can do that too.... BRB.... Okay, hooked up Anker card reader I got for Christmas and am about to...CLEAR THAT CARD! LOL. DONE!!!! Whew.. broke a sweat. Okay.. I am on a roll..now for the videos!! I'm going for it. Video one / three parts / moving.

Chip two. Excellent. Why it is setting the files in the way it is I do not know. Will have to check that. But the video looks good as it was pointing upward into the envelope for the whole glow. Very bright and some blasted segments but all good. I will have to clip out some from it too.... in a bit. Off to do some ... things.

Merry Christmas.

I am going to write this in parts.

The glow last night was fantastic. I glowed 10 minutes!!! Really the only part I love is standing up and glowing a bit then packing up and eating at Ray and Carol's and also enjoying friends and conversation. For as long as I can before getting all weird.

No sleeping aide last night and yup... almost awake all night. Ended with the weirdest James Bond movie dream ever. Weird.

Its was a quiet morning. No more kids running about ( Mo was here but he is taller than I am now ). Coffee and the dog...for one more hour or so. Woosh.

I took 686 shots last night. Thats what I like doing at glows. Too bad the raw to jpg process failed on the first 100. Booo! So I am redoing it on the main computer. I think it has another 200 to do. I was hoping to have time to edit or something here but I will probably end up just posting a few here for now. Thats why later is probably how its gonna be. Hence the parts.

Kids will be here in a bit then the rest of the family. Friends.. Enjoy the day. BRB.

What a fun night put on by Carol and Ray Bair for Breast Cancer Awareness as well as for the city. There were many many people.. Many! Handed out all the cards we had. Stood for an hour. So you are asking how did I glow and take pictures at the same time... Auto Pilot. No. Bob and Mo had the controls. As I said. I love to put her up but standing there glowing .... I would rather take pictures and Bob was nice enough to come out and help. Mo got lucky...lol. Max temp 115 degrees. I have two videos of the night glow too but not even time to look at them.

 It was a win win for me. I really need to fly her more. Shes so pretty. In a kick you in the pants way. Oh, just remembered. When I was putting the fan away in the trailer and Mo hit the "whisper" burner I felt the boom in the closed trailer. The basket was only 10 feet away. It was quite interesting. Yeah...whisper.

NEXT! New Years and the Rose Bowl parade. Like Cherry pie... It has to be done!

As much as I like being home for the holidays I do still wish I was at home home.. or parents home. It must be the... Take care of me again Mom and Dad.. I'm tired and you are so good at it. ":O)
I remember when I was 5ish and at my Grandparents house in Bath. I remember being under the covers with a big box of matchbox cars. I still can see it. I hope I never forget it.  Merry Christmas again..bunnies and doggies and tigers everywhere..... and good nightish.
